The Taw Velo Cycling Club youth team aimed high at Sundays Tesco’s race. The squad, fuelled by the morning’s Easter eggs, put on a sterling performance and managed to secure four places on the podium. Louis Garnsworthy missed out on 1st place due to a poor start and having to fight his way through other riders. Louis didn’t give up during the race and made a valiant effort to catch the lead rider but was unable to match his speed and had to settle for second place, also in the same race Kodie Harmer managed 3rd place for the girls.
Lucy Ward in only her second race had a tough battle against fellow team mate Ellen Garnsworthy for the 3rd place position, each lap the two riders changed position and worked together to chase down the Towey rider, Lucy managed to secure the position after a sprint for the finish line, just ahead of Ellen. Fin Mead made a storming charge for first place in his race. Fin managed to make his way through a number of riders in his age category, however he was caught in back markers on one lap and therefore was unable to challenge the rider from Maindy Flyers.
Alex Ford also returned to racing after recovering from a broken collarbone in the Cat A race. Alex couldn’t keep pace with the lead riders from the Cardiff JIF team, who secured the top 3 podium places, however he had a hard race against North Devon Wheelers rider Evan Rouse, battling it out for the runners up position. George Armstrong also returned to road racing to prepare himself for the next round of the MTB National series of a Mountain biking. George commented that “road racing is very different from mountain biking and the power required for road is much more constant over the duration of the race”.
Taw Velo Cycling Club entered 19 riders in total for the race; of which there was a number of new riders. Ryan Smale who entered his very first race found it very rewarding and was pleased that he finished with a smile on his face and is looking forward to the next round of racing.
